This is great week to be a beer fan in the Bay Area. Here are some of the great events going on this week.
Tuesday 6/2- Rouge Ale House in San Francisco will be hosting their second Meet the Brewer Night featuring Trumer Braurei of Berkley
Wednesday 6/3– Monks Kettle in San Francisco will be holding a Deschutes Beer Diner. The diner will feature a five course meal paired with the beers of Deschutes. The beers that they will be pouring with diner are Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Cider Cone Red, Red Chair IPA, Mirror Mirror and Blake Butte XX. The diner cost $80 and reservations must be made in advance.
Thursday 6/4– Every Thursday at City Beer store they feature a different flight of beers every week starting at 5:30pm.
Friday 6/5– The Jug Shop will be featuring an Around the World with Barley Wine tasting from 6-8pm for just ten dollars. They will be featuring different Barley Wines from around the world that will include Amager Batch One , Unibroue 17th Anniversary, Stone Old Gaurdian and Deschutes’ Mirror Mirror.
Saturday 6/6- The Monterey Beer Festival will be held at the Monterey Fair Grounds from 12:30 to 5:00pm. The festival will feature more than 70 breweries from around the world. Tickets can be purchased on-line until Friday at 5pm for $30 and if still available at the gate for $35. I will have more information on this event later in the week.
Tonight at the Rouge Ale House in San Francisco they with be have their weekly Meet the Brewer night featuring Denise Jones of Moylan’s Brewing. This is a fantastic brewery and she will be bringing some of their great beers to share with all that come out. She will be bringing Hopsicle, Imperial Stout and maybe more.
The Jug Shop in San Francisco will be holding a tasting of MateVeza Yerba Mate Ale this Friday May 22nd from 6pm to 8pm. MateVeza Yerba Mate is an organic beer brewed with a South American natural form of caffeine called yerba mate. Their beers are brewed and bottled for them at Mendocino Brewing Company in Northern California. The two types of beer that they offer are a golden ale and an IPA. There should be more details on the tasting at the Jug Shops website soon.
The 10th annual West Coast Brew Fest Will Be held in Miller Park,Sacramento, On May 16th from 1-5pm. Tickets will be available at the gate for $30 but can be purchased on line for $25 and non drinkers can get in for $5. The admission gets you a 5oz tasting glass and unlimited pours. For those of you that wand a little bit more you can purchase a VIP ticket for $95 that entitles you to early entrance at noon for a VIP tasting and conversation with the brewers, a 14oz mug, VIP wristband , a T-shirt ($20 value) and can participate in the brewers BBQ. Pacific Coast brewing Co in Oakland will be holding a sit down tasting of spring beers this Saturday May 16th. The cost will be $50 and tickets must be purchased in advance. There will be a limited amount of seats so pick up one now. Some of the beers that will be sampled are:
- Pacific Coast Brewing Ultra Yellow
- Russian River Pliny the Younger
- Lagunitas Hop Stoopid
- Firestone Walker Reserve Porter
- Dogfish Head Aprihop
- Klokke Roeland
If you have not had the pleasure of trying Russian Rivers Pliny the Younger it is one of the finest beers that I have ever had. It is a stronger hoppier version of their double IPA Pliny the Elder. On Thursday 5/14 strating at 5:30pm City Beer Store will be hosting an AleSmith flight. The three beers they will be tasting are IPA, Anvil and X. This is a great brewery that is hard to find up this way. Come out and celebrate American Craft Beer Week.
Tomorrow is the start of American Craft Brew Week (May 11-17). There are going to be may event this week across the Bay Area and the country. Information can be found at americancraftbeerweek.org. Rouge Public Ale House (San Francisco)
Monday May 11 To kick of the week they will be tapping a firkin keg at 5:30 pm at all of their ale houses.
Tuesday May 12 They will be holding a gourmet food and beer pairing at 6 pm.
Wednesday May 13 They will be holding a home brewing competition.
Friday May 15 John John Day where they will be tapping a new beer named after Rouges head brewmaster and head distiller. The new beer is a Dead Guy Ale aged in Dead Guy whiskey barrels. 6pm
Toronado (San Francisco)
Tuesday May 12 Lagunitas Night starts at 6pm. They will be featuring Vertical Gnarly, Cask IPA, Dogtown Pale, Undercover Ale and maybe more on tap.
Wednesday May 13 Sierra Nevada Night featuring draft specials.
21st Amendment (San Francisco)
Tuesday May 12 They will be holding special beer school classes at the brewery. There are going to be two different class instructed by their brewmaster and beer school teacher. More information can be found on their website.
